About Us
Gary S. Austin started his consulting practice in 2002 while teaching at the Consumer Bankers Association (CBA) Graduate School of Retail Bank Management (GSRBM). He specializes in "simplifying the complex". Gary has an in depth background in finance, risk management and operations in the financial services industry. He is an expert in purchased impaired loan accounting and implementing the related integrated systems.
Experience: Gary’s financial service experience includes all facets of finance, accounting, strategy, acquisitions, risk management, and operations. Gary has held various positions in the financial services industry including CEO, CFO, EVP of Risk Management, Director of Finance, Controller, Treasurer, Tax manager, and Director. He received FDIC security clearance in October 2010.
Gary was the first Controller and Risk Oversight Manager at a major regional bank holding company ($85+ billion in assets). He worked in both finance and risk management to improve profitability, centralize accounting systems, develop a data warehouse, develop a loan migration database, and an enterprise risk management process. Gary transitioned to smaller organizations to expand his entrepreneurial skills, set strategies, and increase shareholder value. He enhanced his knowledge of customer profitability, scorecards, and risk adjusted returns.
Education: Mr. Austin holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Accounting from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio and a Masters Degree in Business Administration(MBA) in Finance from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a Certified Public Accountant in South Carolina (retired certificate in 2022).
Mr. Austin belonged to the North Carolina, South Carolina and Ohio state CPA Societies. He served on various committees in these state CPA Societies.
Gary was named the Ohio Society of CPAs Outstanding Member in Industry in 1999. Gary’s civic activities include using his carpentry skills on Habitat for Humanity homes in Ohio, North Carolina, and Georgia.
